The bubble applies a constant outward pressure to the string. The parts of the string that are more sharply curved are straightened out by this pressure (like pulling outward at the tips of a bobby pin to bend it straight). This force balances out when all of the string is curved the same amount. A shape where all of the edge is curved the same amount – that is one of the ways to describe a circle.
