eli5: How do we know what expressions to show for each emotion?

From what I understand, different emotions stimulate different parts of the brain, and therefore cause different reactions

Though this isn’t a perfect answer, there is something in the most basic emotions (happy, sad, anger, fear, and disgust I think) that is shared across all cultures. So we know that those basic expressions are somehow just a part of humankind.

It seems to be a natural thing. Blind people and “lost tribes” (uncontacted by the outside world for many year) smile when happy and scowl when angry, without having seen it or have it be the social norm first.
