Eli5: how did iced tea get to where it is today.

I’m from Canada, where our iced tea is all sweetened and usually powdered. I’m the northern states it’s all gross unsweetened iced tea, but apparently, in the south it’s “sweet tea”, which may or may not taste similar to Canadian iced tea

My question is, how did the sweet varieties get spread out geographically in the far north (Canada) and the southern US, but leaving the northern US in between?

It is not the northern states that were left behind. It was the south and Canada who couldn’t see past the sugar to realize the tea was what you were after all along.

Add mint, add another tea to the tea hell add lemonade. IDGAF

But don’t mock the unsweetened tea just add your sugar and move along.
