DMG vs ISO vs CDR and the benefits of each format for storing files?

I know what they are at a basic level, but, for the end user, what would be the benefits of saving a large amount of files in DMG, ISO or .cdr format for CD-ROM / CD-RW *(*I thought CD-ROMs were, enthusiast and government use aside, largely obsolete due to digital download*)*.

Well, DMG is apple’s representation of a disk that contains multiple file systems, while ISO represents the literal 1’s and 0’s to be written on an optical disk (so basically a file system)

Apparently CDR is similar/the same as DMG? (Made by Apple too
