How do I remove the lacquer or whatever it was placed on a table made of brass?

There are 3 ways I've tried and have had 1 successful steel wool and elbow grease, a product called 2 zip-strip, 3 or oven cleaner. # 3 may be the best and the cheapest, or # 2 if the oven is not clean work. # 1 may damage the surface you're working, so its best to try it on a small part first hand. good luck!
