This article will deal with antique mahogany chest of drawers in the Georgian period. This is one of the most requested pieces of antique furniture. The guides will be given price for chests in mahogany. As with all antiques, objects of exceptional size, large or small items with unusual design features, can be much more valuable.

Mahogany began to be used in England in early 1720 and remained popular for over one hundred years. Antique chests of 1700, former are made of very dense mahogany mature. This wood is commonly called 'Cuban mahogany', but in fact came from Jamaica.

Antique mahogany bachelors chest are very rare, have a considerable value. They sometimes above the tops supported on lopers. They were made primarily between 1720 and 1740 and were often small.

I recently purchased a very rare mahogany chest of drawers antique circa.1740. The chest is fine and dense wood has a high caddy printed. This type of top is very sought after, as the molding does not overhang the side or front of the chest. This gives the chest a very clean line. This antique mahogany chest has four graduated long drawers, with the first drawer has compartments and a slide cloth writing. Due to the weight of the drawer, pull-out is supported in lopers. I load a picture of this chest shortly on my website.

By the mid-eighteenth century, mahogany boxes were seen in many more homes. Normally at this time would overhang trim collar swan and brass handles. Best antique chests made more important rooms of the house would be over four graduated drawers, instead of the more common, two small drawers three or four long drawers. Other features that add to the desirability of a crate old, was a slide of brushing / write and possibly a tray mounted on top.

As with all antiques, originality, particularly coating, handles, and feet are very important in determining the price and the opportunity.

Towards the end of the eighteenth century, the quality of the ancient Georgian chest of drawers, she began to decrease. This was down to the reduction in quality of timber imports and a shift towards increased production. At the beginning of the century, only the rich could afford fine antique mahogany boxes and chest were made measure. As the century, finally the dawn of mass production was horizon.
