Silverplate Art Nouveau pieces were embossed jewelry ever made?

I'm considering the purchase of an item Art Nouveau jewelry. both the chain and swing Pendant is marked, but they say that "tested positive for the pound." three issues: • The test positive for sterling silverplate? • silverplating was been made during the Art Nouveau era? • It is possible for a product by the art nouveau period to be unmarked silver, although really? Thanks for any replies you posted!

Hi! If it is art nouveau,,, where is it? The French have been marking the silver since 1798. May be very clever secreting marks the signs, but there must also silverplate marks that are in a rectangle as opposed to a diamond shape. Figure indicates the thickness silverplate. The British, Germans and Americans are too strict with their brands and certainly by the time Art Nouveau was over. And yes, the piece can be silverplate. Also, if something is plated heavily enough you can try as silver, but there are no tests to verify the difference. And yes, everything is possible. If the closure was marked and the only part of the closure has been replaced .. That's the test. Silver is silver .. entirely. If you do not want to apply chemicals to test it, let them do a scratch test in an inconspicuous place to determine how thick the shell is ... or not. If they are selling, it is for them to be reliable and provide proof. The words silver or silver describe an American product that contains 92.5% silver. Silver products sometimes may be marked 925 which means that 925 shares per thousand are pure silver. Some jewelry may be described as silverplate: a layer of silver is tied to a metal. The silver medal mark is used for compounds that contain silver to 90%. Under the law, quality-marked silver also must bear the name or registered trademark in the United States the company or person behind the brand. I would ask them for some evidence (and put it in writing) or ask if you can take it somewhere independent verification, I do not know what you are asking for the necklace or you want to go this route, but would offer piece of mind. http://www.925-1000.com/Ffrench_marks.html http: / / http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/products/jewelry.shtm www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks.html http://www.rubylane.com/shops/rubylane-sold / item/166833x20082706-2 http://cgi.ebay.com/SWEET-ROMANCE-Jeweled-Silverplate- Art-Nouveau-Necklace_W0QQitemZ330016331940QQihZ014QQcategoryZ92841QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

I fix the sheet to the wooden surface and I start to engrave it with a wide variety of chisels. Once engraved, I lightly reheat the piece to remove the pitch and I place the piece into a boiling acid bath to rinse out the impurities. I wash the piece into a solution of washing powder and tamarind. Then I wash with water and let it dry in the sun. I finally file it with a brass brush and polish it to a beautiful high sheen."
