How do I clean the diffuser on a damp floor model phonograph 1914?

I would like to clean the grill cloth on my 1914 Symphonola phonograph. Has a beautiful carved mahogany wood mint condition. The grille cloth is dirty and stained. The slight blemishes seem old water stains. The harvest is almost impossible to find fabric and I like to keep the original. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that the fabric of a textile curator at your historical museum .... that may have some idea of what could work. This stuff is so fragile that the water and / or dry cleaning can damage the fibers, that is why an expert should clean it (even if possible) for you.
