Kashmars usually depict the stories of important events in Persian history. There are often images of the ancient ruins and sculpture at Persepolis or the great Persian kings Daruis and Xerxes. Other Kashmar rugs resemble Kashans, with central medallions and spandrels. The province of Khorassan is a vast, rug producing area with a long and storied history. To ensure the quality of the rugs woven and marketed in the region Shah Abbas (1571-1629) regularly seized and destroyed badly woven or colored rugs. Mashad, the provincial capital, is the main market center for the Khorassan rugs. Other rug-producing centers in the region are Kashmar, Moud, Sabzevar, Ghain and Birjand. Man

Kashan Rugs

Ever since man appeared on earth, he was always in search of himself better, better housing, better food, better comfort, and last but not least, the best way to express himself. Surprising as it may seem, the expert weavers of the city of Kashan discovered the panacea of how to improve their life. They have found a balance between functionality and aesthetic comfort by reinventing the beauty of carpets, and a Persian Kashan rug you can also bring this balance, directly to your home.

Kashan is an oasis city in the province of Ifsahan situated on a caravan route in the Dasht-e Kavir desert, which is in the heart of Iran. It depends heavily on the nearby mountains, which provide water for the inhabitants, many of the town houses are built under the ground level to protect them from heat and scorpions.

The weavers of this city are proud to have more than 5 centuries of experience producing stunning rugs and carpets, with one interruption recorded in the 18th century, caused by the invasion of Afghanistan. In the 16th and 17th century the city is famous for its royal workshops, are said to spread by the king of the world went to buy carpets in person. The oldest remaining Persian Kashan rug dates back to 1542, and is displayed in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

At the end of 19 Century, the garment trade was flourishing at the center of the scene, however, it was not long before they retook the carpet trade is a legitimate place in history. At the beginning of the 20th century, used to import wool from Manchester, but moved to Sabzavar, of course, is geographically more accessible.

A Persian Kashan rug is easily recognizable because they have a limited number of models, most of them have a single medallion in the shape of a diamond in the middle, with a typical combination of curves and right angles, and supplemented by a myriad of floral motifs (Shah Abbasi), patterns of leaves and arabesques. Wild hunting scenes, palmettos and vases are can also be found.

A Persian Kashan rug usually have a rather limited palette, with red, ivory, navy blue and some greens like colors predominate. Ocre, olive green, white and brown from time to time may be found. Generally, the colors being arranged in such a way as to convey a very pleasing contrast, and not in bold, but more conservative in appearance and sober suited for the interior in a classical style.

Most carpets have a very thin, with warps and wefts of cotton and a short, narrow and thin wool pile. However, the most beautiful pieces, the ones of exceptional quality, are made entirely of silk. These, and those with a large number of KPSI (over 700), are quite rare and cost proportionally.

Persian Kashan rugs are among the most beautiful and finest carpets in the world, because, just like in other mats Persians, be alert to false because there are many countries which produce chemically dyed, low-KPSI carpets who pretend to be Kashan producers but are not. It would be a pity not to enjoy the original splendor of a genuine Persian Kashan rug!
