Their color schemes include tones of blue, burgundy and red. The province of Khorassan is a vast, rug producing area with a long and storied history. To ensure the quality of the rugs woven and marketed in the region Shah Abbas (1571-1629) regularly seized and destroyed badly woven or colored rugs.
