If you have had the privilege of witnessing the manufacture of French Limoges boxes from beginning to end, your admiration for this real works of art increase a thousand times! Limoges, France is world famous for its porcelain. Limoges boxes, trinket boxes, pill or small, have been meticulously created Limousine in the region of central France since 1700. Today, very select few artisans are left in Limoges, which continue to create these works of art, labor-intensive exactly the same way as in 1700.

A Limoges box is made in two or more parties. Each part is made in a separate press. After that allows you to set the time, the pieces are removed from the mold by hand, a sponge to soften and remove any extra particles. The pieces are then fired in a special oven. During this fire, each piece can be reduced by about 15%. The contraction causes each piece to take a slightly variant from any other the same mold. The process focus is a form of art in itself and is performed by highly skilled craftsmen. As each piece is unique, brass hinge must be cut and fitted individually to it. Once the hinges are mounted and soldered, are then submerged in acid for several hours to develop a patina varnish. Are then adhered to each piece of china by hand.
