Hexagram #62 – The Mouse

62 – The MouseThe Clever – Thunder on the Mountain

The mouse be quite the clever creature, skirting around the floor, collecting tidbits for nourishment as larger creatures go hungry. Now is the time to emulate the mouse and not attempt great things. For when a bird files too high, its singing is out of tune. It is the time to be humble, thrifty and simple with action and word. There will be a time for greatness, but for the present moment, we are advised to be small and clever like the mouse.

1stThe Bird and the Mouse – The bird flies high and only finds misfortune, while the mouse stays on the ground and continues to survive. If we try to be like the bird, then we will fail.

2ndThe Mouse’s Mother – Though he sought the father, he actually encountered the mother who has a word or two for him. Whether this is good or not is a personal judgment.

3rdThe Mouse’s Nemesis – Someone under our care is jealous of our power and plotting in the shadows to make our undoing. The wise man recognizes this danger and takes the correct precautions.

4thThe Mighty Mouse – Instead of skirting in the shadows, he accosts his adversary and draws unneeded trouble unto himself. Now is not the time for confrontation, rather it be the time for success thorough smallness.

5thThe Desert Mouse – He wanders though the desert searching for water. There are clouds in the west, but they rise too high before they can break. He takes a shot with his bow and hits something other than the intended target. Being to late to seize the presented opportunity he takes a wild draw and encounters something unexpected and new. Is this a good thing?

6thThe Prideful Mouse – He had grown so proud of his smallness, that when the time came to act, he did nothing. This invites disaster, for someone or something has us in their sights and the only recourse be a direct confrontation.
