51 – The Alarm – Shock – Endless Thunder
The alarm sounds with a terrible and frightening shock, lifting people from their seats and sending them running for miles around. Realistically, the alarm should not be a time for fright, but rather a wake up call. The wise man stands coolly in the midst of Chaos, maintaining his balance and taking care not to spill the wine, for he knows that it be but an illusion. Awake! Good things are coming if we remain steadfast.
1st – The False Alarm – Thunder booms in the sky, sending people at first to fright. This fear soon transforms to joy as they perform the much needed rain dance.
2nd – Heeding the Alarm – Sirens roar and to this we shall take heed. We should drop whatever we are doing and flee to the hills for seven days and seven nights. We should not have reminisce about what was left behind, for it will be regained when we return.
3rd – The Excessive Alarm – The bell is loud, constant and annoying; perhaps it is trying to tell us something? Though it is normally best to be calm and civil, now is the time to emulate this alarm.
4th – After the Alarm – Though the alarm may have been false, its mere occurrence sent people running and consequently muddled the path. We may not be thinking clear at the moment. Best to wait until we regain our clarity.
5th – The Alarm Alternates – It starts and stops and starts and stops. Perhaps it is trying to tell us something? There are things we have been ignoring that require our attention.
6th – The Neighbors Alarm – The alarm rings down the street and our neighbors experience unforeseen trouble. Best to stay in the home and take no action until this has passed, lest we become unnecessarily involved. Marriage causes gossip.
All Six – Accepting the Alarm – The alarm rings; we listen and take care. If we follow conventions, then we shall be free from harm.
