Hexagram #47 – The Shadow

47 – The ShadowWeariness – A Dry Lake

The shadow follows him everywhere his goes, creating difficulty after difficulty. He is tired and weary, but if he continues to persist with righteous intention, then he will achieve his objective despite the adversary. Now is the time for action, not for words; for enough words have already been spoken and to speak more will just detract from our cause. The wise man understands the shadow is being cast from something hidden and attempts to unearth the root of the problem, even if this means taking an extraordinary risk.

1stThe Shadow Overcomes – The adversary is too great and overcomes him. There is nothing we can do to better the situation. The wise man resigns himself to failure and begins to focus on new things.

2ndThe Shadow of Indulgence – He creates problems for himself through excessive indulgence in food and drink. All seems for a loss until a distinguished man arrives. It is advised to make sacrifice to this man and ask for his assistance in improving the situation.

3rdThe Shadow of his Wife – Everything was going wrong and he could find nowhere to lean. He returned to his home to find his wife has gone too. The best thing about hitting rock bottom is that there is only one way to go!

4thThe Shadow of Presumption – Placing too much hope in another will lead to failure. Best to plan to weather this one out alone. Our power is weak and results will be achieved very slowly until we can regain our confidence.

5thThe Shadow of his Lord – We have insulted one who stands above us and are now receiving due punishment. Nothing will be achieved in the near future, but if we are humble and offer a sacrifice, we may be able to dig ourselves out of this situation.

6thRegretting the Shadow – His life is a mess as he awakes and now understands that it is mostly his own fault. If he regrets his past actions, and does his best to be an honorable man, then recourse will be found.

All Six – Accepting the Shadow – It is useless to fight, but perhaps we can take what we have and turn it around to work in our favor? Perhaps.
