Hexagram #38 – The Stranger

38 – The StrangerDeserted – The Lake of Fire

People are strange, when you’re a stranger. Everything seems so distant, everything is opposite of what we are. Feelings of disconnection may arise. The stranger is a time of waiting in which we do not posses the power to accomplish great things. However, know that the stranger is protected from above and will be able to find subsidence in small things. Instead of reaching out to the people who would only label him ‘Strange,’ the wise man cultivates his ‘strangeness’ and opens his eyes to see that those of a similar temperament have began to gather round.

1stThe Strangers Nemesis – Though we may lose something, we should not chase this horse, it will return of its own accord. During this time, we may receive a visit from a wicked man, attempting to sow his destructive seed. We should not fight, send away or accept this visitor. Rather, politely ignore him and he will leave of his own accord. In this way, we remain faultless.

2ndThe Strangers Lord – Walking the streets after hours, he encounters his lord in a narrow alleyway. By doing this, he causes his superior a small trouble. We should not feel regret or shame for this encounter as it was not out fault and will quickly be forgotten.

3rdThe Stranger is Beaten – He watches helplessly as fools attack in the night, slicing his nose and taking his valuables. What bad luck. Rest assured, if we remain steadfast and let this regression pass, it will quickly be forgotten.

4thThe Strangers Husband – She was so lonely and the neighbors thought her quite peculiar. Blessed be, for she soon met a respectable man, who though had faults of his own, tried his best and turned out to be quite the good husband.

5thThe Stranger Leads – If we have one stranger, he will be considered crazy, two strangers and then we have a marriage. Ten strangers and then we have a party. One hundred or more strangers and we are bordering on a religion. The wise man gathers the like minded round.

6thThe Strangers Demons – Wandering lost and lonely through the night, he encounters a demon upon the road. At first he wanted to attack, but then reconsidered the situation and the nature of demons. Thus said, he simply waited for the rain which naturally banished the foe. The wise man waits for doubt to be vanquished before proceeding.

All Six – The Stranger Comes Home – Exhausted from wandering lonely, the stranger returns home to try to create a normal life.
