37 – The Family – The Hearth – Wind Rising from Fire
The family is a mechanism which functions properly when each member keeps to their assigned place. A woman’s place is within, a mans without. Sons should obey their fathers and daughters after their mother. When these roles are accepted with sincerity, the family functions as a single entity and is bestowed blessings from above. It is advised for women to embrace the archetypal feminine and to proceed in this manner, while men are advised to remain diligent, waiting for the command of the one they serve.
1st – The Mountainous Family – Being complete unto itself, the family resides in an isolated part of the mountains. Already having everything that he needs to be whole, the wise man turns his attention inward and enjoys everyday affairs.
2nd – Only the Family – Everything on the outside is broken, but the family remains joyous. External affairs may bring complications, better to focus attention inwards towards the hearth.
3rd – The Fathers Family – It is the Fathers role to discipline and speak sharply when it is required. In this way, he prunes the weeds and maintains a harmonious household. However, if the woman or child attempts to fulfill this authoritative role, disaster shall strike. For this would surly place things out of balance.
4th – The Well-Oiled Family – Running smoothly through the daily routines will bring great fortune to the family. The wise man tends his garden with a joyous smile.
5th – Love of the Family – Drawing close to those that surround, the wise one bestows and accepts love. It is that simple!
6th – The Evolving Family – Giving himself to frequent self-examination, the wise man recognizes and works through his faults. Only through the constant cycle of renewal, may a family remain whole and function as a single entity.
All Six – Sacrificing for the Family – Like a holiday dinner with all those relatives we abhor to see, or perhaps a nail biting favor, sometime we must put our own wishes aside and do what is best for the family.
