Hexagram #34 - The Horns

34 – The HornsPower – Thunder in the Sky

The goat digs in his heels and charges with great force at the imminent hedge. The horns is a time to exercise our will through a forceful and dramatic display. We shall put our head down and charge without doubt toward the stated goal. If something should get in our way, then they will have to deal with the stubborn and fearsome power of the horns. The wise man knows that he is correct and not afraid to exercise his will.

1stInfant Horns – Our power is not yet fully blossomed. If we advance now, then we will soon find that we do not possess enough strength to carry to completion. The wise man shall wait until he is at the height of his power to advance.

2ndLowering the Horns – Charging towards our goal with confidence will bring success. The wise man knows that few are able to withstand the great power of the horns.

3rdRefraining the Horns – Oh how he wants to charge forth, but he notices a barb entangled in the hedge. Some enemy has placed it there to trick us! To persist as planned would mean getting stuck in the hedge. Better to holster the horns and use delicate skill and cunning to remove the barb.

4thFreeing the Horns – Though he is presently stuck, he continues to struggle with ferocity and is able to free himself. Regaining his strength, he is able to charge forth as before.

5thMisusing the Horns – The uneducated will charge at anything that is bright and shiny. The wise man understands that sometimes the best action is a non-action and carefully contemplates before resorting to force.

6thThe Horns Entangled – He came in at the wrong angle and got his horns stuck in the hedge. Do not despair, because perhaps the shame of this minor misfortune is a necessary step in the process of waking up and learning to take responsibility for ourselves?

All Six – Resting the Horns – There is nowhere to go and nothing to do. The hedge in the distance is but an illusion or perhaps trap of the mind to attempt to draw us away from the great wealth which we already possess. Best is we remain where we are and watch the world unfold before our eyes.
