Hexagram #26 - Jaws

27 – The JawsThe Receiver – Thunder in the Mountain

Cook a man a steak and he will eat for an evening. Give him a gun and teach him how to hunt and soon he will be bringing fresh meat to the doorstep. The jaws dictate that it is time to nourish ourselves and gather in close those who make us strong. It may also be the time to observe others, as to how they nourish themselves, as this may offer clues on how to find nourishment in our own life. This is the time to absorb and store power as a bear would gorge before the encroaching winter. The wise man is restrained in speech and frugal in celebration.

1stJaws Agape! Never reach for the sky just to surrender. Do not stand still with jaws agape. There is no stopping; constant forward motion is required.

2ndImmature Jaws – The boy, thinking he is a man attempts to ascend the mountain. Of course he runs back to the village at first signs of dusk. Much personal development needs to be achieved before something like this may be attempted.

3rdForgoing the Jaws – The aspirant has read too many idealistic books. He forgoes the middle path and attempts to find salvation through the excess of self-deprivation. This is not the advised path at the given moment and no good will come from such. Wake up!

4thThe Tigers Jaws – The wise man ascends the mountain, stalking his prey with the gaze of a tiger. Having found nourishment, he sits still and lets the world come to him.

5thAbnormal Jaws – The sky is yellow and the sun is blue. Things are not as they seem and much uncertainty looms in the air. Best to stay where we are, until the situation returns to more normal standards.

6thFlexing the Jaws – There is a foreign object lodged in the meat. We recognize this and spit it out before continuing our meal. If we can push through the initial trouble, then we will encounter many good things. It may be good to go somewhere.

All Six – Cleaning the Jaws – The tiger spots a herd of buffalo. He cleans his jaws to prepare for the upcoming feast. We should make room to prepare for what is coming.
