Hexagram #24 - The Return

24 – The ReturnTurning – Thunder in the Earth

What has been borrowed will be returned, he who has gone forth will return henceforth. The entire cycle of creation occurs in seven days, with the return on the sixth and rest on the seventh. The return is a time to seek out our roots, the place where we began and to gather strength from this source. It is best to solidly choose this concrete thing to return to and charge like a bull, without even taking the time to smell the flowers upon the road.

1stReturning from the Crossroads – The day is late and he stands alone upon the dusty road. The omens presage turning back before we have gone too far. Better to have a warm bed and meal tonight. Nothing will be lost by this.

2ndA Blessed Return – The hand that writes the future as if it were the past dictates our return at this juncture. We shall find extreme good fortune by following this path. This is also the time to bestow compassion upon those less fortunate.

3rdMany Returns – Everytime he puts a foot outside, he is forced to turn back due to conditions within or without. There is too much happening to cleave a clean path through the forest. If we continue to persist, then we will continually be turned back and end up wasting our power.

4thA Solitary Return – His companions are sluggards and drunkards, and only seek to foster indulgence and negligence. Better to leave them now and return alone. To push forward would mean being led to disaster due to another persons ineptitude.

5thReturn of the King – The exiled king is heralded by the populace and called forth to rule the land once again. He must return for the higher purpose of serving the people. But then again, he was beginning to enjoy the solitary life.

6thA Wounded Return – Nothing is positive. The snake bites the eagle and he drops in mid-flight. Armies are set to fight, but the defeat is total and disaster overtakes him and his companions for ten years. Only unbiased justice and wisdom may prevent this.

All Six – A Glorious Return – Rich with victory, he gathers his companions and they return in glory, full of the spoils of battle. Let the shops close and the people feast for 2 days and 3 nights.
