Glass Rare

The popularity of carnival glass collection is resurged in recent years. Contemporary pieces are readily available at discount prices. However, the period of Carnival Glass is really what is popular with collectors. To give you some useful information about this American art form, I discuss the history, manufacture and the value of this art in stained glass.

History of Carnival Glass

In the late 19th century, Tiffany & Company and Steuben Art Glass produced an expensive hand-blown glass iridized that was very popular with their rich clientele. This glass was made by hand and commanded very high prices. In 1907, The Fenton Art Glass Company began producing a mass of high quality and low cost iridized glass, similar to the appearance of crafts by Tiffany and Steuben. The Fenton iridized Glass is available in many colors, including a single red. Fenton was not the only manufacturer of glass iridized, but it was the largest production of colored glass in more than 150 models.

Because of the economic difficulties of the Great Depression, iridized glass lost its popularity. The inventory of this glass was then and deeply discounted commonly given away from cereals and supermarket promotions. In addition, the glass was determined in carnival games, then, the next name Carnival glass.

The popularity of iridized glass resurged in 1950, with collectors and antique dealers and it was during this period that the glass acquired the name Carnival Glass. Today, Carnival glass is still produced by Fenton, and several other companies.

Other manufacturers of carnival glass

Fenton, Northwood, Imperial Glass, Westmoreland and Dugan are some companies that manufactured the carnival glass. Some of these producers stamped their pieces with a distinctive sign. However, the Most other manufacturers do not have their brand name goods leaving some vintage pieces impossible to authenticate. Today, because of high costs production, some of these manufacturers are yet.

What is Carnival Glass Worth?

Vintage Carnival Glass manufactured beginning of the twentieth century is, by far, the most valuable and sought after pieces. Color and to play an important role in determining the value. Chips, cracks, mold marks, repairs to reduce the value. If an item is a rare color as water is more value than an item in marigold that is plentiful. Carnival glass red produced by Fenton is very rare, and often commands a very high price. Carnival glass punch bowl set, because it consists of multiple items, sell for a premium if complete all the pieces.

Traditional venues such as flea markets and antique shops were the primary source for vintage carnival glass. Today, a look on eBay for thousands listing of both vintage and carnival glass at great prices. Remember, one persons trash is another persons treasure.

It 'so ironic that at some point in time Fenton Carnival glass was so common that could be given away. Today, some vintage items to sell thousands of dollars. However, if you spend un po 'di tempo in search of this beautiful glass, you can find some real business.

Captures the unique style of fashion maverick Iris Apfel and her exuberantly idiosyncratic personal chic. With remarkable panache and discernment, Iris Apfel combines styles, colors, textures, and patterns without regard to period, provenance, or aesthetic conventions. Now in her mid-eighties, she is a unique style icon. Over ninety sumptuous color plates, photographed by Eric Boman, show off a selection of Apfel's extraordinary outfits on wittily posed mannequins, some sporting her trademark outsized spectacles. The originality of her style is typically revealed in her mixing of Dior haute couture with flea-market finds, Dolce & Gabbana lizard trousers with nineteenth-century ecclesiastical vestments, pink Lanvin worn with ropes of Navajo turquoise. Apfel's eclectic pieces might come from a Parisian couture house, an American thrift shop, or a North African souk, or they may have been made to her own design in a tiny studio. Detailed captions describe every aspect of the outfits, including names and dates of designers, plus full information on fabrics and accessories. A selection of audacious accessories also comes under the spotlight: a giant necklace made of bear claws, a turn-of-the-century Indian horse ornament worn as a necklace, a parrot's-head brooch in colored glass and rhinestones. The book includes an introduction by Harold Koda, director of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and an essay by Apfel herself, describing her lifelong love affair with style and illustrated with vintage photographs from her personal collection. 169 illustrations, 149 in color.
Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths
$311.35

Volume 15 in this series continues the voyage of discovery started almost a decade ago.Chapter 98 adds significantly to an evaluation of systematic, experimental low-temperature studies of the ambivalent behaviours of cerium (ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism, spin glass, superconductivity etc.) which depend upon its environment in materials. The conclusions arrived at should provide new data against which the theory can be advanced. The next chapter provides a review of rare earth carbides, emphasizing the thermodynamics, phase diagrams, crystal structures and physical properties. The binary rare earth carbides present an exceptionally wide range of compositions and structures both as solids and gas-phase molecules. Complex carbides with additional metal and non-metal components also receive attention.Metal-rich halides (i.e. compounds with an X/R ratio < 2) are the subject of the next chapter. The compounds are classified according to their structure and chemical bonding characteristics and their electrical and magnetic properties are also reviewed.Chapter 101 deals with the preparation, structure, chemical and physical properties of heavy-metal fluoride glasses. Large amounts of rare earths can be added into these, and they possess a great potential for optical applications in the mid-infrared range as fiber optic glasses for communication and transmission of information, optical wave guides, fiber lasers and sensors. The following chapter explores the chemical kinetics of solvent and ligand exchange in aqueous lanthanide solutions. A wealth of tabulated information on rate and equilibrium constants is provided in textual and tabular form. Chapter103 considers the fundamentally important reactions of the lanthanide ions with water. These interactions are discussed for both solids and solutions. The hydrated species are considered in detail for the aqueous solution, revealing the consequences of the lanthanide series sequence. The concluding chapter reviews macrocyclic complexes formed by rare earth and dioxouranium ions as templates. Synthetic trends and reactivity are considered as well as potential uses of these intriguing wrap-around structures.
