Can Acrylic Gesso as a double bottom in wood?

I paint with acrylic on canvas so I chalk from my ears lol, and I'm attempt to portray a small 9-inch x4 pine box, but i dont want to have to go get wood gesso primer if it is enough. Any help is appreciated, thanks

I do not think it would be a problem. Acrylic sticks to anything and that what is gesso, acrylic. You should not have any problem. Ps my friend has painted on wood with acrylic paint and plaster and kept out for years and that lasted for years. This was also a Chicago weather difficult weer.
